Selkirk Rex Cat

Selkirk Rex Cat

Selkirk Rex is a known for its unique curly fur. This new curly breed was first discovered in the USA in 1987. The curly kittens were bred to Persian, British and Exotics to develop the Selkirk Rex lines. A worker in an animal shelter noticed a cat with a unique curly coat and gave her to a Persian breeder named Jeri Newman. This breed is one of three breeds of Rex cats. The word "Rex" is a name that has through usage come to refer to the fur of the cat that is different to the normal.

Selkirk Rex is a medium to large size breed with a round head similar to the British Shorthair. Selkirk Rex comes in both long and short hair. A Selkirk kitten is curly at birth, then loses its curliness and slowly acquires it again at 8 to 10 months of age. Fify percent of the offspring of a matting between the this cat breed and a non-curly cat breed will be Selkirk Rex cats. Selkirks come in a variety of colors. The face of a Selkirk Rex is a little like a Traditional Persian, rounded with a short muzzle.

The appearance of this breed is the first you can notice, but these cats also make champion companions. They are fun loving and affectionate in nature. They are very playful, and enjoy a good game of fetch. Selkirks cats really show love and loyalty for their human companions. Because they are very social, they don’t want to be left alone for long periods. Selkirks fit in well with other family members including children, and usually get along well with other companion animals.

Serengeti Cat

Serengeti CatSerengeti cat is a relatively new breed of exotic cat. It is the result of it's mixed ancestry, the Oriental Short hair Cats and Bengal Cats. The Serengeti cat is a very special new breed, worthy of its recognition by TICA. The founder of this breed is Karen Sausman. She has been in the breeding business for 40 years and breeds a lot more than cats. She has a lot of experience in breeding animals, intact she also breeds horses and dogs. Because of its popularity the Serengeti Cat was developed simultaneously in the USA and UK.

The Serengeti Cat is a large boned, long legged, domestic cat resembling an African wild cat. Their posture is more upright with their heads held high on a long, thick neck. The ears of the Serengeti Cat are very large, rounded on the end, and placed directly on the top of the head. The American Serengeti cats have larger ears than the UK breeds due to the ears inherited from the American Orientals. What makes the Serengeti cats more special is the color, it is same as the Leopard Spotted cats. A clear yellow to gold cat with a pattern of distinct widely spaced black spots. A Male Serengeti Cat can weigh between 10-15 pounds and female weigh between 8-12 pounds.

Serengeti cats are very affectionate, purring loudly whenever they get attention. They are very active, playful and friendly. If introduced properly they should get along well with other pets. They easily adapt to their surroundings, love to climb and chase toys and will play for hours.
