Scottish Fold Cat

Scottish Fold Cat

Scottish Fold cat was born in a litter in Scotland in 1961. A shepherd by the name of William Ross spotted the first known Scottish Fold cat at a farm near Coupar Angus in the Tayside Region of Scotland, Northwest of Dundee. Susie, the Fold's founding mother, was a farm cat born in Tayside. Two years later the mother cat, Susie gave birth to 2 kittens with folded ears. They named the kitten Snooks and all Scottish folds of today can trace their pedigrees to her.

The unique thing about this cats are their ears, which are folded forward and downward on their head that captured the hearts of many breeders. Scottish Fold kittens are born with straight ears. At about three to four weeks of age, their ears fold or they don’t. Due to the rarity of the Fold, and due to the fact that not every kitten born has folded ears, it is very hard for the supply to keep up with the demand. A one way to determine the quality of the cat. The Scottish Fold can be found in both the shorthair and longhaired version. They also comes up in a great number of colours and pattern combinations. The longhaired variety is sometimes referred to as a "Highland Fold". Scottish Fold is a medium cat with with a flat scull and large round eyes, which give it a sweet, wide-eyed expression. Other unique characteristics of the Scottish Fold include a thick tail, a round face, a short nose, and very thick fur. The Scottish Fold is a healthy, hardy cat with a lifespan of approximately 15 years.

Scottish Fold cat is a very sweet and charming cat. They have tiny voices but not extremely vocal but adore human companionship and display this in their own quiet way. The can adapt to almost any situation, and are as comfortable in a room full of noisy children and dogs. They don’t usually panic at shows or in strange hotel rooms, and they adjust to other animals extremely well. And they are not happy if left alone for long periods of time. Their activity level is moderate and many have the weird uncatlike habit of sleeping flat on their back.
