Blue Buffalo Dog Food Recall
Pet food manufacturer Blue Buffalo has issued a voluntary recall on three pet-food products suspected of containing higher levels of Vitamin D than intended. The specific production runs of their Blue packaging of Wilderness Chicken – Dog, Basics Salmon – Dog, and Large Breed Adult Dog products.
They discovered that its ingredient supplier had made a scheduling error, producing a Vitamin D supplement immediately prior to preparing the products in question. The higher levels of Vitamin D could cause hypercalcemia, a serious illness that affects the electrolytes in the body and can disrupt normal organ function, according to a statement issued by the American Society of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
The company and ASPCA suggested that if you do have one of the recalled bags in your possession, you should immediately stop feeding your dog from that bag, and call 1-877-523-9114 for further information regarding a refund of the product. Blue Buffalo produces both cat food and dog food. They are headquartered in Wilton, Connecticut.
