Councilman criticized for naming his dog Muhammad
California councilman criticized after mentioning in a meeting that he named his dog Muhammad. Councilman Derek Reeve attract media attention, and now criticized by Muslim community and his own colleagues. He said that the comment was not meant be disparaging to Muslims.
Dogs are considered unclean in Muslim culture and calling someone a "dog" is a grave insult, so naming a dog after the Islamic prophet is even worse. And now the Islamic Circle of North America's Southern California chapter wants Reeve to apologize. So far, he did not offer an apology to anyone who might have been offended by the name of his dog.
